Welcome to the PDX Home Brewers Club!

Joomla! LogoPBC's mission is to have fun promoting the art and knowledge of home brewing. Although PBC's home is in Beaverton, Oregon, all are welcome!

PDX Home Brewers club is based out of Beaverton, Oregon and is open to one and all who share the common interest: to share and learn about the wondrous art of homebrewing. In our attempt to promote the hobby even more, we created pdxbrewers.com. Here at PDX Brewers.com you can connect with other brewers to exchange ideas, techniques, equipment, recipes, and maybe even a few samples...:-)

We meet monthly at Max's Fanno Creek Brew Pub in Tigard. A great place to hang on the west side. Also we have many club events including group homebrewing, brewery tours, BBQ's, and alot of other homebrewing and beer related stuff. Our next meeting is coming up soon so visit this webpage for details or you may contact us on the links to the left.

We also offer a club email chat where most of our members hang out. If you would like to give the email chat a try, just click here. For more information on membership, dues etc , see the about tab.

If you are ready to become a member, just create a user account through the member logon on the left and follow the instructions. Once your dues have been paid your account will be activated. You can pay dues online or at the next meeting.

Thanks for stopping by!

July 2014 Meeting

E-mail Print PDF

YES, we are having our normal monthly meeting at Max's tonight at 7pm. Sorry for the delay – summer has been busy for all of us.

When Mon, July 21, 7pm – 9pm

Where Max's can be found at 12562 SW Main St in Tigard (map)

Description Please join us at Max's Fanno Creek Brew Pub in Tigard on our usual 3rd Monday of the Month. Please do not bring in food, but don't forget a few bucks for munchies.

The primary agenda item is Iron Brewer 2014.  We will be tasting beers from six teams that brewed on June 7th at this year's Iron Brewer Competition.  The mystery ingredient was jams and jellies, so if you're wondering what a rye Saison with orange marmalade and mint julep tastes like, come tonight.  Or perhaps a wheat beer with Morello cherries and raspberry fruit spread...  Each team's beer was brewed to a designated style and was designed to showcase their selected fruit.  A people's choice and a scored judging will take place.

Iron Brewer 2014

Okay folks.  You've seen the announcements this week via iChat and/or heard about Iron Brewer at tonight's meeting.  We are looking for two person teams to compete in a brewing free-for-all featuring a secret ingredient that everyone is required to use (hard candy, cereal, and nuts were previous years examples).  Here are the details for Iron Brewer.

Date: Saturday June 7th

Location: Brew Brothers - Hillsboro

Schedule:

8:00am - Set-up your equipment

8:30am - Secret Ingredient is revealed.  30min timer to declare BJCP/Brewer's Association style that you will operate within begins.

9:00am - Style declaration is due.  You have 1 hour to shop for ingredients.

10:00am - Finish shopping for ingredients and begin brewing.

5:00pm - Finish brewing (retire for a well earned beer in the Tap Room)

Cost: The club will be putting up $15 per team towards their ingredients.  (If you go beyond the $15 limit, the difference is the responsibility of the team to pay.)

Finished beers will be judged by a panel of knowledgeable and impartial brewers using BJCP guidelines used in official competitions.  They will also be judged by the club members in the same format as the monthly "People's Choice" awards.  Winners will receive prizes for their hard work and creativity.

It is time to form your team and formally throw your hat into the ring.  Once you have a brewing partner, please declare it on iChat so we can begin to form a roster of participants.  If you do not have a partner and would like one, sound that out on iChat too.  We will help pair you up with someone else that is searching.  This is an event that many of us look forward to all year long.  Come on out and see for yourself, you won't regret it.  (Spectators/Supporters are encouraged and welcome).

Topics; This is the meeting in which we all get to taste the efforts of the club’s Yeast Experiment. In recap, we brewed at 13 Virtues Brewing, and many of us took home 5 gallons to pitch a declared yeast, all different. We get to come together and try them all this night. To those that are involved in the yeast experiment, please bring in a growler (minimum) of your beer to the meeting for us to taste and evaluate. I will let you know if the Head Brewer and other staff from 13 Virtues will join us. If theycannot, then we need to make sure to bring a 12ounce or 22ounce bottle of your beer as well to leave with them to try the beers.

I will have handouts of the yeast’s chosen in this experiment and will have the recipe up on the board as well. Do not bring in any extra homebrew as we have many beers to go through. Looking forward to this!! See you there!

Thanks all! See you soon!
